The Play Readers: A Doll's House
January 24th @ 7pm A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen Why I Picked This Play: A Doll's House was one of the first plays I read in high school that made me gasp out loud. Nora, Ibsen's protagonist (or antagonist, if you're a close minded apish misogynist) helped fit me into my big-girl-feminist pants.

A Doll's House
by Henrik Ibsen
Why I Picked This Play:
A Doll's House was one of the first plays I read in high school that made me gasp out loud. Nora, Ibsen's protagonist (or antagonist, if you're a close minded apish misogynist) helped fit me into my big-girl-feminist pants. When this play premiered ON MY BIRTHDAY in 1879, people WALKED OUT, they were offended by the notion of a woman having an independent thought or (whispers) DESIRE outside of society's sick oppression of her.
This story of Nora's fight for independence is a story that still continues today.
On Saturday I marched with 700,000+ women and allies to secure the rights that women have today thanks to the sacrifices women like Nora made. I thought of her a lot while I marched. I like to imagine when she walked out her front door on December 21st, 1879, she transported herself to January 20th, 2018 and marched.
I love this play. Please join me in a reading of A Dolls House.
